This little helper script switches from kwin to compiz and back again. It uses kdialog to choose the wm that should be used and compiz-manager to fire up compiz. The choiced WM would be saved to a script ~/.kde/env/kdewm.sh that will be started on KDE startup. So if compiz is the WM of your choice this one would be started unless you revoke your decision. Problems -------- The panel applet "Desktop Preview and Pager" for kicker automatically increase the number of desktops up to 16. If this behaviour affects you install the alternate rpm "kicker-compiz" and replace the panel applet with "Desktop Preview and Pager - Compiz". It may also help to just click with the left mouse button to the applet to restore the number of virtual desktops. If you have openbox installed this script will break the possibility to start KDE with Openbox from gdm/kdm through the entry "KDE/Openbox". If you have started your session with enabled desktop effects (maybe from a previous session), disable them in your current session and then your X-Server breaks or you logout with CTRL+ALT+DEL, in the next login compiz would still be enabled. You have to disable the desktop effects again and make sure you log out cleanly. The taskbar will always show all windows from all viewports. The option "Show windows from all desktops" is not available when using compiz.
