Running Vexira's Command-line scanner with MIMEDefang
=====================================================

Central Command (http://www.centralcommand.com/) offers several
virus-scanning products for UNIX and Linux, under the Vexira name.

These include:

	Vexira Antivirus for Mail server
	Vexira Antivirus for Samba server
	Vexira Antivirus for Linux command-line
Vexira Antivirus for Linux real-time scanner

ONLY the command-line scanner is supported by MIMEDefang.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In the spring of 2005, Central Command completely
re-wrote their anti-virus scanners. Versions of MIMEDefang prior to
2.55 do not work with any Vexira released since spring 2005.

This assumes you already have a working installation of vascan.
If not, please re-read the vascan documentation and ensure that
your installation is complete, and working, before attempting
to use vascan with MIMEDefang.

Make sure you put the compiled vascan binary somewhere in your PATH.
/usr/bin is the default location. Make sure your vascan.ini is
in the same directory as the vascan binary, and that the .ini file
contains a valid pointer to a quarantine directory.

CAVEAT:

Although MIMEDefang's use of vascan will NOT attempt to utilize
vascan's quarantine features in any way, the quarantine directory
MUST exist, and MUST be writable by the user id that MIMEDefang
runs as. Usually, this is user: defang, and group: defang, in
which case it may be easiest to simply:

	chgrp defang /var/spool/qrntndir
	chmod g+w /var/spool/qrntndir

... or wherever your quarantine directory is located.
