What is FooBillard ?
--------------------

   FooBillard is a free OpenGL-billard game for Linux. Why foo?
   Well, actually I had this logo (F.B.-Florian Berger) and then foo sounds a
   bit like pool (Somehow I wasn't quite attracted by the name FoolBillard)
   Actually FooBillard is still under development but the main physics is
   implemented. If you are a billard-pro and you're missing some physics,
   please tell me. Cause I've implemented it like I think it should work,
   which might differ from reality.

   You need to have GLUT or SDL installed on your system.
   Furthermore libpng has to be installed for loading the textures.
   And freetype is used for font rendering.
   the fonts included here are lent from http://www.larabiefonts.com
   (see README.FONTS)
   
   The following features are implemented:
    - wood paneled table with gold covers and gold diamonds
    - reflections on balls
    - shadow pixmaps
    - detail switching of balls according to distance
    - zoom in/out - hold right mousebutton
    - FOV +/- - hold right mousebutton + CTRL

   here all keyboard/mouse functions:
    - mouse moving and button1 -> rotate
    - mouse moving and button2 -> zoom
    - mouse moving and button1 after button2 -> place cue ball
    - mouse moving and button2 after button1 -> adjust effet
    - mouse moving and button2 and Ctrl -> FOV - adjust
    - mouse moving and button2 and Shift -> cue offset adjust
    - mouse moving and button1 and Shift -> place cue ball (when active)

   red-green stereo:
   -----------------
    one picture is drawn on red channel only, the other one
    on the other both channels (green, blue)
    so you can use either a green or blue or cyan filter for one eye (left),
    and a red one for the other eye (right).
   
   
   network game:
   -------------
   
    * general info:
      commandline network game start is not anymore available
      network game should be started from within the menu.

      The host and the client can of course be the same machine.
      The data sent between the computers are only the shot-data,
      like strength, cue offset and direction.
      So if the two machines have different internal floating point
      accuracy, the games might drift apart after a certain amount of time.
      I'm not sure how strong this effect is in practice, cause i only tested
      on similar machines.

    * start from menu:
      hit <ESC> to get to the menu,
      select <Network Game>/<As Host> on one computer and
      <Network Game>/<Join>/<OK> on the other machine after having set the
      proper IP in <Network Game>/<Join>/<IP>.
      the <Network Game>/<Port> setting must be the same on both machines.
      the IP of the host machine can also be set on the client machine 
      (the joining one), by adding hostaddr=IP-ADDR in the config file 
      (see below), or by passing it as commandline option:
      --hostaddr=IP-ADDR
      starting from menu the host sends its gamestate variables to the
      client, so every clienside settings get overriden by the host
      (gametype, tablesize, player names, ...)

    
   SDL:
   ----
    SDL looks fine, and its easy to add features (here sound).
    But i dont want to switch to SDL fully, because its very "unfriendly"
    to other resources.
    using GLUT i can watch TV (non-overlayed) and run some other apps 
    without any major performance drawbacks.
    (maybe there's a way of programming SDL in a way, that it gets fine 
    performance sharing too - if you konw how, let me know)
    
    
   config file (.foobillardrc):
   ----------------------------
    You can place a config file named ".foobillardrc" in your home directroy.
    This file can contain all possible commandline arguments (without the 
    preceeding "-" and one line for each argument).
    Commandline parameters are parsed afterwards, so they override the
    ".foobillardrc" settings.
   
    
   KNOWN BUGS:
   
   
   TIPS:
   * the strength adjustment is up/down or pageup/pagedown, so many people
     who have installed imwheel can use the mouse wheel to adjust strength :-)
   * by default there is one human player vs. one AI-player
     you can chane this by commanline options ( foobillard --help )
