Virtuoso for Unix (Personal Edition)</h2> <a name="unixpersonainstalldescr" /> <h3>2.4.1. Installation</h3> <p>Once the required tar file has been downloaded from the web or ftp site and placed in a designated installation directory the installation process is ready to commence. Choose or create a suitable user account to own your Virtuoso installation. </p> <ul> <li>The first step is to un-tar the file to obtain the install script and archive file. Use the following command, replacing with the relevant name of the file you downloaded: </li> <div> <pre class="programlisting"> tar xvf <tar file>.tar </pre> </div> <li> If a license file exists place this in the same directory as installation files and it will be used during installation. </li> <li> If upgrading an existing Virtuoso instance ensure it is shutdown first and a backup of your database file is made, then run the install script using the following command: </li> <div> <pre class="programlisting"> $ sh ./install.sh - Extracting Virtuoso Personal Edition v5.0 - Creating default environment settings - Creating default database settings Installing new virtuoso.ini in $VIRTUOSO_HOME/database Installing new php.ini in $VIRTUOSO_HOME/database Creating symlink to $VIRTUOSO_HOME/bin/virtuoso-iodbc-t - Registering ODBC drivers - Registering .NET provider for Mono - Installing VAD packages in database (this can take some time) - Checking where license should be stored - Starting OpenLink License Manager - Checking for initial Virtuoso license - Starting Virtuoso server instance - Finalizing installation This concludes the first part of the installation. Post Installation</h3> <a name="unixpersonainstallpost" /> <h4>2.4.2.1. Post-Installation Sanity Check</h4> <p>A quick way to check that the database is running, is to point a browser to the http port. Troubleshooting DB Startup Failures</h4> <p> <strong>Install failure</strong> </p> <p>Check the .log file in:</p> <div> <pre class="programlisting"> $<Directory where Virtuoso is installed>/bin/virtuoso.log </pre> </div> <p>in order to review the installed files binaries and databases (defaults) for issues if install fails.</p> <p> <strong>.lck existance</strong> </p> <p>Check .log in case of .lck issue</p> <p>Delete the .lck file and repeat the steps from above.</p> <p> <strong>.trx incompatiblity issue</strong> </p> <p>Check .log in case of .trx incompatiblity issue</p> <br /> <br /> <a name="unixpersonainstallconfg" /> <h3>2.4.3.
