[README.utmp] The utmp support provided with konsole is established by a separate program, kwrited. This program is expected to be started in startkde and runs as a demon. kwrited stamps the utmp and pops up when something comes in on the device it is lurking on. You have to have the utempter library installed prior of configuring the kdebase package, to make the utmp support work. The utempter library is available at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/redhat/redhat-6.0/SRPMS/SRPMS/utempter-0.5-1.src.rpm and has some demands. The "utempter" program must be set root/setuid and installed in /usr/sbin. Use who(1) or utmp (included in the utempter distribution) to see the entries. Try write(1) or wall(1) to see the whole construction in action.
