The Recode library version 3.6 adds weird characters behind converted
strings under certain circumstances. Thus it's safer to use Recode v3.5
or one of the available alternatives like the
<a href="ref.iconv.html" class="link">iconv</a> or
<a href="ref.mbstring.html" class="link">mbstring</a> extension.
