    Because the PHP 4 zip extension is unmaintained we recommend that the PECL
    extension is used rather than the bundled one.

    In order to use these functions you must compile PHP with zip support
    by using the <strong class="option configure">--with-zip[=DIR]</strong>

    configure option, where [DIR] is the prefix of the <a href="http://zziplib.sourceforge.net/" class="link external">&raquo;&nbsp;ZZIPlib</a> library install.
