translation table that is used internally for

Special characters can be encoded in several ways. E.g.
<em>"</em> can be encoded as <em>&quot;</em>,
<em>&#34;</em> or <em>&#x22</em>.

by <span class="function"><a href="function.htmlspecialchars.html" class="function">htmlspecialchars()</a></span> and
<span class="function"><a href="function.htmlentities.html" class="function">htmlentities()</a></span>.
