Introduction ------------ You can instruct ntopng to save in MySQL flow information so that you can 1. Visualize historical information using ntopng 2. Create your own reports using data stored in MySQL How To Enable It ---------------- In order to enable this feature you need to start ntopng with the -F. Example: ntopng -F "mysql;localhost;ntopng;flows;root;" Note that ntopng will create the table automatically (you need to create the DB) so no action is required from your side. Using It -------- Doing that ntopng will dump flow information in MySQL and allow you to visualize top flows in the historical view of local hosts (you need to click on the graph icon inside the host view). Example http://localhost:3000/lua/host_details.lua?ifname=0&host=192.168.1.92&page=historical The ntopng pro version contains much more detailed historical information as well it allows you to navigate such information, thing that is not possible with the community edition. Data Retention -------------- In order to avoid filling up your MySQL, ntopng will harvest old data. You can specify the retention period in the preferences menu. The default retention is 30 days (i.e. data older than 30 days is deleted). Future Work ----------- In the future we plan to consider adding ElasticSearch support to historical view too.
