<h1>Reporting bugs and FAQ</h1>

<p>
There are various sources of information you could check before
reporting a bug. Please read the <a href="http://www.lirc.org/">
LIRC homepage</a> carefully, have a look at the
<a href="../faq.html">FAQ</a>, check the
<a href="https://sourceforge.net/p/lirc/tickets"> issue tracker</a>
and search the
<a href="https://sourceforge.net/p/lirc/mailman/lirc-list/">
mail archives</a>.</p>
<p>
If you believe that you have found a bug in LIRC please report it on
the <a href="http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/lirc-list">
LIRC mailing list</a> or the
<a href="https://sourceforge.net/p/lirc/tickets">issue tracker</a>.
Information which is valuable in this context includes:
</p>
<ul>
<li>LIRC version, versions of all other packages involved</li>
<li>Description of the IR hardware you are using</li>
<li>Output of <em>ls -l /dev/lirc*</em>
</li>
<li>Output of <em>lsmod</em>
</li>
<li>Relevant passages from <em>/var/log/messages</em> or journalctl(1)
</li>
<li>Contents of lircd's logfile if you are using a file (otherwise
the logs are in syslog/journalctl). Use a high log level, at least
<em>--loglevel debug</em> </li>
<li>A description of the problem so it's possible to reproduce it</li>
<li>A patch that solves the problem (this one is optional)</li>
<li>The config files you are using (<em>lircd.conf</em>,
<em>lircmd.conf</em>, <em>lircrc</em>, <em>lirc_options.conf</em>)
</li>
<li>If you have problems with a config file try to find the
shortest example that does not work as one would expect and
include it.</li>
