kdex11client-0.3.1b-3mdv2007.0.i586.rpm

Pre-beta test release. Use on production environments at your own risk.

This panel applet REQUIRES at least KDE 3.x

IMPORTANT!!!
___________

Before compiling the sources, edit the "network" file found on the src
subdirectory to match the ip address and port of the KLP (kiosklock protocol)
server process. It defaults to 192.168.0.1 and 10012 on my system respectively.

This is only a temporary workaround as the configuration subsystem
of this project still needs to be ironed out.

INSTALLATION
------------

Read the INSTALL file. After you have installed this plugin to the kde system
directory of the client computer, re-login to the kde desktop. Right click
somewhere on the panel (kicker). Find the add applet menu and select
"kdeX11client".

To prevent customers from disabling this applet, we're going to take advantage
of the Kiosk framework on KDE 3.X. Find and edit the user's panel config file.
It is usually found on $HOME/.kde/share/config/kickerrc. Add an [$i] to the
top of the file. The user should not be able to modify panel entries at
this point.
If you suspect the user is able to edit his kickerrc file. Add [$i] to the
system-wide kickerrc file. It is usually found on /opt/kde/share/config

USAGE
-----

Customers can do two tasks by right clicking the blue panel area of the applet.
It brings up a pop-up menu which says log-off and check remaining time.
Log-off updates the account with the user's remaining time. The customer may do
this to save their remaining time for later use or to transfer to another
workstation. An account can be used only at one workstation at a time.
The second option should be self-explanatory.
