    in the Asterisk dialplan, and hopefully we’ve given you the seeds from
    which you can explore the creation of your own dialplans. As with the
    previous chapter, we invite you to go back and reread any sections that
    require clarification.</p><p>The following chapters take us away from Asterisk for a bit, in
    order to talk about some of the technologies that all telephone systems
    use. We’ll be referring to Asterisk a lot, but much of what we want to
    discuss <a id="I_indexterm6_tt1005" class="indexterm"></a>are things that are common to
