<p><a name="index-lyrics_002c-variables-1877"></a>
To define variables containing lyrics, the function <code>\lyricmode</code>
must be used. You do not have to enter durations though, if you add
<code>\addlyrics</code> or <code>\lyricsto</code>
when invoking your variable.

hierarchy of staves and lyrics first, e.g.,
