                H O W   T O   C O M P I L E   F R O M   C V S

First, you have to checkout the source code from the cvs server:

   # cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/ettercap login

use empty password to login, then:
 
   # cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sf.net:/cvsroot/ettercap co ettercap_ng

if you already have checked out the cvs, you can update it with:

   # cvs up -Pd

Once you have downloaded your fresh copy of the cvs, you have to generate the
autoconfiguration scripts. 
NOTE: you will need up to date autotools.

   # ./autogen.sh

Then you are ready to compile the source as usual:

   # ./configure --your-options-here

Since the configure.in contains the AM_MAINTAINER_MODE macro, automatic 
rebuild of configurations script is not done by default. To enable it, use the
--enable-maintainer-mode flag. It is suggested to use even the
--enable-debug flag to be able to track down ettercap bugs. 

   # ./configure --enable-debug --enable-maintainer-mode --your-options-here

To enable ettercap to work even if not installed into the system (i.e. to work
form the current directory), you have to use the "special" target 'test' to
make. This script will link the executables file in the root of the source tree
and fix the permission to open plugins from the current directory.

   # make test
   
A script that does the whole process is provided for lazy developers :)

   # ./mconf.sh --your-options-here

This file is present only in the CVS repository. It will not be distributed.
