swm-1.2.5-2mdk.i586.rpm

SWM - version 1.2.3, 15-mar-2001
================================

What is swm
-----------
swm is a very small and fast window manager for the X Window System. It
should run under any version of UNIX and compatible operating systems. It is
designed to be fast and efficient and runs even on Linux-PDA such as the
Compaq iPAQ. If you use it on a rather unusual or exotic plattform
please *please* send me a mail so your system can be listed. :-)

Reqirements
-----------

Hardware

Basically any computer system that is able to open a X11 session. You should
have at least 4 megs of memory. (With a small XFREE)
SWM runs perfectly on my 486 (25MHz) with 6 megs RAM and an old ISA graphics
card.

Software

You need at least X11 correctly installed. To use stdio-features. You have to
install the stdlib-devel package.
It's a good idea to install the rxvt package too since it consumes very little
memory.
If you intend to use the full features (as on the screenshot) you must have
installed gnome-core and kde. (for panel & icons)
The task switching utility is now X11-clean. You don't have to install Xaw
anymore. If you plan to compile swm yourself - wich is strongly recommended-
it is a good idea to install the devellopment packages of X11 and stdio.

Please edit startswm before installation.

Building
--------
There will be no configure script. Just type "make". It's a good idea to edit
the Makefile before. Just have a look at the COMPILE_PARAMS file.

Usage
-----
There is nothing special about swm. Just read the man-page.

for swmbg: This small utility just writes an xpm image into the background
of the root window. Take you favourite background image, transform it to
your X-server's resolution and colour depth and save it as an xpm under
for example "/usr/share/swm/background.xpm" so it can be displayed. swmbg does
not support other formats and does not scale or transfor the picture.

Bugs
----
If you find any *please* send me a mail.

Uninstallation
--------------
You can easyly remove swm by typing "make uninstall" in the sources directory.
