This document describes the changes made to the software between the
<I>previous</I> and <I>current</I> versions (see above).
If you don't find something listed here, then it was not done in this
timeframe, or it was not considered important enough to be mentioned.

<A NAME="general"><B><FONT SIZE=+3>G</FONT>ENERAL CHANGES:</B></A>
<UL>
<LI>the location of the <B>faxgetty</B>, <B>faxq</B>, and <B>faxd.recv</B>
programs may move unless you explicitly configure your software to
install them where you want them; <STRONG>beware of this as you
may need to update files that reference these programs</STRONG>
<LI>the default location for <B>faxcron</B> has changed; <STRONG>this
may require changing your crontab entry</STRONG>
<LI>the FAQ has been updated (a little)

<A NAME="configure"><B><FONT SIZE=+3>C</FONT>HANGES IN THE SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION:</B></A>
<UL>
<LI>the <TT>DIR_SERVERS</TT> target for server programs has been dropped
and programs previously placed there are now installed in <TT>DIR_SBIN</TT>
or <TT>DIR_LIBEXEC</TT>
<LI>the default values for <TT>DIR_SBIN</TT> and <TT>DIR_LIBEXEC</TT>
have changed from <B>/var/spool/hylafax/bin</B> and <B>/usr/lib/fax</B> to
<B>/usr/lib/sbin</B>
<LI><B>ondelay</B>, <B>lockname</B>, <B>faxsend</B>, and
<B>pagesend</B> are now installed in <TT>DIR_LIBEXEC</TT>
rather than <TT>DIR_SPOOL/bin</TT>
<LI>all DSOs are now installed in <TT>DIR_LIBEXEC</TT>
<LI>the default location for <B>ps2fax.exec</B> (the DPS-based RIP for IRIX)
has changed from <B>/var/spool/hylafax/bin</B> to <TT>DIR_LIBEXEC</TT>
<LI><TT>-pedantic-errors</TT> is now specified when configuring the software
to be built with gcc so that certain C++ constructs used to identify
signal handlers are not misinterpreted as function calls
<LI>if the optional
<A HREF="ftp://ftp.sgi.com/sgi/fax/contrib/faxview">faxview package</A>
is installed, configure will automatically build its Makefile

<A NAME="faxgetty"><B><FONT SIZE=+3>C</FONT>HANGES TO FAXGETTY:</B></A>

<LI>the Class 1 driver no longer requires the <TT>FCF_SNDR</TT> bit
be set in each HDLC frame received (except to distinguish between
DIS and DTC); while contrary to CCITT T.30, some fax machines
apparently do not follow the spec in this regard
<LI>utmp and wtmp entries written after a login session terminates no
longer have <TT>"DEAD"</TT> in the user field, instead they have
a null string
</UL>
