We use gpsd because lots of other gps related project use it, and we can support all the devices that gpsd supports without changes in the programming. ******************************************** * 1. * Download and compile gpsd * ******************************************** You can download gpsd at: http://freshmeat.net/projects/gpsd/ That's not the direct download link because there are some important comments on the freshmeat site. You will have some problems on newer systems when you want to compile gpsd....but dont worry its a simple prob (read the comments on the freshmeat page). Basically you need to replace <sys/time.h> with <time.h>. ******************************************** * 2. * (Re-)Configure Wellenreiter * ******************************************** You should run 'perl Makefile.pl' from inside the Wellenreiter directory. You will be asked a lot of questions, say yes to the gps related one, and set the port where gpsd is listening (default port is already selected). Please read INSTALL. ******************************************** * 3. * Run GPSD / GPS * ******************************************** Run gpsd now. You have to know which baud rate must be set for your gps receiver and which device it is connect to. Mine is conneted to /dev/ttyS0 and runs at 4800 baud, so I have to enter 'gpsd -p /dev/ttyS0 -s 4800'. Now simply run the command 'gps' (part of the gpsd package). If gps is working you will now see a window about how many satellites are running. Personally, I do this before every startup of wellenreiter, so I'm sure the gps is working. ******************************************** * 4. * Run Wellenreiter and scan with GPS * ******************************************** You can now run Wellenreiter as usuall. Don't forget to start gpsd first, otherwise Wellenreiter will immediately quit. Now when you run a scan in wellenreiter, the latitude, longitude, and speed in mph will be added to the nets detected. ############################################ # GPS Troubleshooting # ############################################ If wellenreiter has empty or zero long/latitudes, check if gpsd is running and see if the gps program works.
