cscmail-1.6.2-2mdk.noarch.rpm

README for CSCMail
------------------

CSCMail is a full featured e-mail client written entirely in Perl

Why did I write this program?
--

I am tired of the lack of a good e-mail client for Linux. There are
a wide variety of e-mail clients available, but none support all of the
features that a person like myself requires.

An e-mail client must support the following:

	Multiple POP-3 e-mail boxes
	Encryption
	Configurable Filters
Auto-set reply address based on account used to DL message
	Multipart/MIME attachments
	HTML messages
	Drag-N-Drop message sorting *
	Multiple Message selection
	Multiple folders
Multi-Threaded operation (allow the transfer of messages while still
		browsing the current message store)

	* to be included in future versions

In other words, it needs to be Outlook Express. I hate MS as much as the
next person, but to this day, not a single e-mail client I have
encountered has met my needs as completely as Outlook Express. It is the
only app that I miss from Windows. Since I have gone 100% Linux, I need
to duplicate it's functionality. I refuse to run VMWare or Wine or to
Dual-Boot. So I am stuck writing this application.

Side Note... that statement was written over 6 months ago...
I am so glad to have been "stuck" writing CSCMail. This has been
one of the coolest projects I have ever been able to work on. My
users have supplied me with all the motivation in the world to
continue far above and beyound what I would have written for my own
personal use. My co-developers are also a source of constant
inspiration and help. This project, although started to "scratch an
itch," has morphed into something so much larger... I hope other Open
Source projects are as successful as I consider CSCMail to be.
Although CSCMail is far from complete (in my mind) it currently stands
head and shoulders above any other e-mail application for Linux (as
far as I can tell) and this is due to the constant feedback from our
users, as well as the time and code put forth by my co-developers.
We have a good team here, and I am glad to work with everyone of them.

	Thank you... Steve

WARNING
--

This is under development software. This is not a completed project.
However, we do use the Linux kernel versioning scheme. As such, version
1.6.x can be considered stable. (Whereas version 1.7.x or 1.5.x would
be considered "beta" or "developmental")

One more thing to note:

In this version there are no confirmation dialogs at all. If you select
all and choose delete, those messages will be deleted. If you delete a
folder, it and all of the messages in it will be deleted. Period. No
second chance.

Contact info and help

I can be contacted at: countzero@cyberdeck.org

The rest of the developers, and many of the users frequent the CSCMail
mailing list:

send a note to majordomo@cscmail.penguinpowered.com with the words
	"subscribe cscmail" in the body

This list gets 20 to 30 messages a day... All the developers read it, and
almost all questions get responded to in a timely fashion by a developer
(if not by me)

You also might want to stop by #cscmail on EF-Net, especially if you'd like to
contribute to the development of CSCMail.

This program, CSCMail, is distributed under the terms of the GNU public
license. (See the file LICENSE for details) Deal with it.
