<p>This is a community effort, and as such many people have contributed
to it over the years.</p>

<h2>History<a class="headerlink" href="#history" title="Permalink to this headline">¶</a></h2>
<p>This project was started in 2007 as a Google Summer of Code project by
David Cournapeau. Later that year, Matthieu Brucher started work on
this project as part of his thesis.</p>
<p>In 2010 Fabian Pedregosa, Gael Varoquaux, Alexandre Gramfort and
Vincent Michel took leadership of the project and made the first
public release, February the 1st 2010. Since then, several releases
have appeard following a ~3 month cycle.</p>

maintainer for Debian OS and has contributed several fixes.</li>
<li>Ron Weiss joined the project in July 2010 and contributed both the
mixture and hmm module.</li>
<li><a class="reference external" href="http://parietal.saclay.inria.fr/Members/virgile-fritsch">Virgile Fritsch</a>. Bug
fixes.</li>
<li><a class="reference external" href="http://mblondel.org/journal">Mathieu Blondel</a> joined the
project in September 2010 and has worked since on the sparse
matrix support, text feature extraction and general bug fixes.</li>
<li><a class="reference external" href="http://sites.google.com/site/peterprettenhofer/">Peter Prettenhofer</a> joined the
project in October 2010 and contributed the <a class="reference internal" href="modules/sgd.html#sgd"><em>Stochastic Gradient Descent</em></a> module as
well as several examples and fixes.</li>
<li>Vincent Dubourg joined the project in November 2010 and
contributed the <a class="reference internal" href="modules/gaussian_process.html#gaussian-process"><em>Gaussian Processes</em></a> module.</li>
<li><a class="reference external" href="http://atpassos.posterous.com">Alexandre Passos</a> joined the
project in November 2010 contributed the fast SVD variant.</li>

time in the period 2010-2012. It also hosts coding sprints and other
