Ok, it is good. It is very good! We can now read all the important
stuff, and read it in a proper manner too. New functionality includes
the ability to see if the email has been read. A big bonus. There are
still fields in the header that are not understood, but I don't
believe they are important ones.
If you want to use the LibDBX 'C' or 'C++' stuff, then I suggest you
copy the files into your project directory and include the header
files. There is no intention of creating Shared Libraries for these
functions. You ARE encouraged to use it!

Only a small change this time around. I have added C++ wrapper
functions for all the libdbx functions. Read README.libdbx++ for
details of how to use it. I have also remove lots of memory leaks from
the code. I don't think there are any more now.

Welcome back! The library routines have been enhanced and the included
utilities have been tidied up a bit. I think they need a bit of
explanation though, as this was lacking in the previous release.
readoe
------
readoe - Extract emails from MS Outlook Express 5.0 directory into mbox format files
Usage: readoe [OPTIONS] -i INDIR -o OUTDIR
Options:
-h, --help display this help and exit
-V, --version output version information and exit
-i, --indir "indir" input directory containing "Folders.dbx"
-o, --outdir "outdir" directory to put converted files. Files will be named the
same as the input ones. eg. Inbox.dbx
-q, --quiet display no extra information whilst
processing
This program requires two arguments to operate - indir and outdir. The
outdir *must* already exist. An example of usage could be this:
$ readoe -i "/mnt/c/Program Files/Outlook Express/" -o ~/emails/
This will then proceed to convert all the dbx files that Outlook uses
into mbox files. This program does *not* just convert *all* the dbx
files in the Outlook directory, just those from the folders.dbx
file. If you wish to convert arbitary DBX files, use the readdbx
program.

It has been noted by many that just typing readdbx by itself results
in an error. This is because the program is attempting to read from
stdin, and is not finding enough data. This program can be used in any
of the following ways:
$ readdbx < ~/dbx/inbox.dbx > ~/mbox/inbox
$ readdbx -f ~/dbx/inbox.dbx > ~/mbox/inbox
$ readdbx -f ~/dbx/inbox.dbx -o ~/mbox/inbox
All these do exactly the same. They read from the file inbox.dbx and
output to the file inbox. They will display information about each
email to stderr as it is processed. This can be disabled using the -q
option.

LibDBX v0.1

Welcome. This has been *very* hard work to figure out the structures of a DBX
file, and there is still lots of work to do. Currently, the indexes of the
files are built successfully. You are able to extract Emails and information
from normal dbx files and also you can extract some of the information from
Folders.dbx. When the library is is told to open this file, it will recognize
it and pass back items of DBXFOLDER.
There is no API documentation yet, that is still a way off. All I can say is
this version works. It has no problems with large emails, or large email boxes.
The code in readoe.c is able to open the Folders.dbx file and export all the
mailboxes into individual unix mailboxes. The ordering of the emails might be
the same as when they were in Outlook. The source path and destination path
are defined in the source at the moment, so you will have to change them there
to make them work.
The code in readdbx.c is able to open a single dbx file and prints all the
information in the structures that we build.
These code items are only examples of how the code is to be used. We would be
grateful if this code could make it into *many* other utilities to provide a
much needed user interface.
Hopefully, the test code will help you to understand how this library works,
and how we intend to keep the interface. We want it to be straight forward.
